World Green Building Council Releases Plant a Sensor Manual

Thanks to overwhelming response to the Plant a Sensor Campaign initiative that was proposed earlier this year, the World Green Building Council and RESET® are excited to announce the release of the Plant a Sensor Participant Manual. The beta version of the manual dives deeper into the criteria of the campaign and the importance of understanding air quality.

Did you know that polluted air causes 7 million early deaths each year? Worse yet, air pollution is linked to climate change. In fact, it is estimated that by reducing the level of 'Short-Lived Climate Pollutants' in our air, global warming could be reduced by up to 0.5ºC until 2050.

As a global population we remain dangerously uninformed about the quality of air that we breathe.  Never has it been more critical to learn of the dangers of air pollution and how we can curb it.

To foster that education and usher in change, the Plant a Sensor Manual outlines how you can get involved.  The manual outlines what is required for monitor deployment, including monitor type, where and how to install monitors according to program requirements and how to select the proper monitor based on a project’s unique site conditions and fit-for-purpose criteria. The manual includes helpful tips regarding hard and soft costs as well as information on how data will be aggregated and communicated.

The Campaign’s overarching goals will help:

  • Enlighten citizens about the quality of air they breathe, both indoors and outdoors
  • Equip researchers and policy makers with live, expansive, global, air quality data as it relates the built environment.
  • Arm a global audience with information and awareness to promote better pollution policy measures.

About WorldGBC

The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) is a global network leading the transformation of the built environment to make it healthier and more sustainable. Collectively, with our Green Building Councils (GBCs) in around 70 countries, we accelerate action to deliver on the ambition of the Paris Agreement and UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We do this by accelerating critical systems transitions that need to take place across the sectors to achieve our goals for a net zero carbon and sustainable built environment. We are committed to green buildings for everyone, everywhere to build a better future.

About RESET Air

RESET® Air is the world’s first sensor-based, performance-driven building standard and certification program where indoor environmental quality is monitored and measured in real-time. In order to attain certification, buildings and interior spaces are required to consistently maintain healthy indoor air quality as defined by the Standard. RESET Air is comprised of a suite of six specific standards outlining sensor performance criteria, the proper deployment and installation of monitoring devices and how once collected, data is reported and properly communicated. RESET is recognized by leading healthy and green building schemes worldwide.
