RESET® Embodied Health
The RESET Embodied Health Standard provides users with a powerful methodology for assessing, scoring, and benchmarking embodied health, based on chemical ingredients and chemical off-gassing, for projects and products.
RESET Embodied Health is part of the RESET Embodied Standard.
1. What is RESET Embodied Health?
RESET Embodied Health is a standard and certification program that provides quantified and third-party verified environmental data for projects. The results help users tangibly improve, benchmark, and communicate progress. For example:
- "18.5% of the project ingredients are known and red list free, which is 2.5x better than the industry average"
- "The project has achieved a Total Health Score of 48.9%"
- "64.3% of the project ingredients are known and screened"
2. Why and how to use RESET Embodied Health
The RESET Embodied Health Score takes a holistic look at material health, based on data from chemical ingredients and chemical off-gassing.
RESET Embodied Health is mainly used in the form of a score. There is a methodology for Project Scoring and one for Product and Materials Scoring:
Project Scoring
RESET Embodied Health for Project Scoring is a powerful way to establish a benchmark for the type of products that is used in your projects. It consists of aggregating the product scores with one of the Accounting Methods: Elemental or Weighted.
The scoring includes the following:
- Chemical Ingredients
- Chemical Off-gassing
Products and Materials Scoring
RESET Embodied Health for Product and Materials Scoring extracts and highlights the actual numbers behind the achievements and labels awarded to a product or material and makes it easily comparable to others in the industry.
RESET Embodied Health scores products based on data quantity, quality and performance. When product-specific data is absent, generic proxy data is used to fill the gaps. The scoring includes the following:
- Inventory & Disclosure
- Screening
- Assessment
- Optimization
- Emissions
3. Next Steps and Pilots
The RESET Standard is currently piloting the Accredited Professionals (AP) Program for Embodied Carbon.
Since its launch in October 2020, the RESET Embodied Standard has aggregated high quality data from participating projects, enabling the creation of detailed benchmarks for specific industries such as luxury retail, mid-market retail, grade-A offices, visual merchandising and many more.
Participating professionals are provided with access to these benchmarks.
